Background:

When completed, the 2400 MW Ituango Hydroelectric Project (HPP) will provide 17% of Colombia's electricity demand and is operated by Empresas Publicas de Medellin (EPM). The project received the silver certification from the Hydropower Sustainability Alliance (HSA) in November 2023. It is the second large HPP to be certified under the Hydropower Sustainability Standard.
